The Body — A1 English Vocabulary

This A1 vocabulary list gathers 20 beginner English words about the body — from head to toe — parts of the human body. Every word comes with a simple definition, its British-English pronunciation and a natural example sentence, so you learn each one in real context.     The top part of your body, where your face is.

    “My head hurts a little today.”

  2. hand/hænd/

    The part at the end of your arm, with fingers.

    “Please give me your hand.”

  3. eye/aɪ/

    The part of your body you see with.

    “I have something in my eye.”

  4. ear/ɪə/

    The part of your body you hear with.

    “My ear hurts a little.”

  5. nose/nəʊz/

    The part of your face you use to smell and breathe.

    “The dog has a wet nose.”

  6. mouth/maʊθ/

    The part of your face you use to eat and speak.

    “Please open your mouth.”

  7. hair/heə/

    The thin threads that grow on your head.

    “Her hair is long and black.”

  8. arm/ɑːm/

    The long part of your body between your shoulder and hand.

    “He has a strong arm.”

  9. leg/leɡ/

    The long part of your body you use to walk.

    “My leg hurts after running.”

  10. foot/fʊt/

    The part at the end of your leg that you stand on.

    “My right foot is cold.”

  11. finger/ˈfɪŋ.ɡə/

    One of the five long parts on your hand.

    “I have a ring on my finger.”

    The front part of your head.

    “She has a happy face.”

  13. tooth/tuːθ/

    One of the hard white parts in your mouth for biting.

    “My tooth hurts; I need a dentist.”

  14. neck/nek/

    The part of your body that joins your head to your shoulders.

    “He wears a scarf around his neck.”

  15. knee/niː/

    The joint in the middle of your leg where it bends.

    “The boy fell and hurt his knee.”

  16. back/bæk/

    The part of your body behind you, from neck to bottom.

    “My back hurts after work.”

  17. heart/hɑːt/

    The organ in your chest that pumps blood.

    “The heart is a very important organ.”

  18. stomach/ˈstʌm.ək/

    The part of your body where food goes after you eat.

    “My stomach hurts; I ate too much.”

  19. shoulder/ˈʃəʊl.də/

    The part of your body where your arm joins the body.

    “She carries a bag on her shoulder.”

  20. lip/lɪp/

    One of the two soft edges of your mouth.

    “He has a small cut on his lip.”
