Terms of Service
The rules for using Virtuous English Academy. Short version: it is free, it is for learning, please do not scrape it or resell it.
Last updated: 27 July 2026Accepting these terms
By using virtuousenglishacademy.com ("VEA", "the Service") you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the Service.
If you are using VEA on behalf of a school or organisation, you confirm you are allowed to accept these terms for it.
What the Service is
VEA is a free, CEFR-aligned English-learning website: grammar lessons from A1 to B2, graded reading stories, vocabulary lists, quizzes, a placement test and a study dashboard.
It is free of charge for personal study and for classroom teaching. There is no paid tier, and we never ask for payment details. The Service is funded by advertising — see the disclosure below.
We may add, change, suspend or remove any part of the Service at any time. We will try not to break things you depend on, but we cannot promise a feature will exist forever.
Accounts
You can use almost all of VEA without an account. An optional free account saves your progress, flashcards and notes, and syncs them between your devices.
- Give accurate information when you sign up, and keep your sign-in details to yourself.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- One person, one account. Do not share an account or let someone else use yours.
- Tell us promptly if you think someone else has got into your account.
You can delete your account at any time by asking us — see the Privacy Policy.
Acceptable use
Please do not:
- Scrape, crawl, harvest, mirror or bulk-download our lessons, datasets or question banks.
- Republish our material, or present it as your own, anywhere else.
- Resell access to the Service or any part of it.
- Try to break, overload, probe or gain unauthorised access to the Service or another user's account.
- Upload anything unlawful, abusive or infringing into notes, flashcards or messages.
- Interfere with, hide, or artificially click the advertising that funds the site.
Automated extraction of our content or data is not permitted and may be pursued under applicable intellectual-property and computer-misuse law.
Our content, and your licence to use it
The lessons, curriculum structure, question banks, graded stories, linguistic datasets, interface design and code that make up VEA belong to Virtuous English Academy and are protected by copyright.
What you may do
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-commercial and revocable licence to use the Service for your own learning — or, if you are a teacher, to teach with it in your classroom at no cost. Printing a page for your own class is fine. Linking to us is always welcome.
What you may not do
Anything else: redistribution, republication, resale, inclusion in a commercial database or training corpus, or removal of our attribution.
Content you create
Notes, flashcard decks and writing-task answers you produce on VEA remain yours. We store them so we can show them back to you, and we do not publish them, sell them or use them to train anything.
You give us only the permission we need to host and display your content back to you as part of running the Service.
Tests, levels and certificates
Our placement test and level test give you a considered estimate of your CEFR level, and the certificate you can download records that estimate.
VEA certificates are not an accredited or officially recognised qualification. They are not equivalent to IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge or any state examination, and no university, employer or immigration authority is obliged to accept one.
Use them to track your own progress and to motivate yourself. Do not present one as a formal qualification.
Advertising disclosure
VEA is funded by advertising served through Google AdSense. Ads appear on lesson, grammar, vocabulary, story and blog pages; they do not appear on our policy pages.
We do not control which specific ads Google shows you, and an ad appearing on VEA is not an endorsement by us of the advertiser, their product or their claims. If you see an ad here that is deceptive or offensive, please tell us — we can block advertisers and categories, and we will.
What advertising means for your data is set out in the Privacy Policy and the Cookie Policy.
Links to other sites
VEA links to external references and resources. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, their accuracy or their privacy practices. Follow them at your own discretion.
Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee any particular learning outcome, any specific timeframe for reaching a level, or uninterrupted, error-free availability.
We work hard on accuracy, but language teaching involves judgement and no explanation fits every case. Nothing on VEA is professional, legal, medical or immigration advice.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Virtuous English Academy is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss arising from your use of the Service — including lost progress, lost data or lost opportunity.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.
Suspension and termination
You may stop using VEA whenever you like and ask us to delete your account. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, particularly the acceptable-use rules, and will normally tell you why.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top of this page always shows the current version, and we will flag anything significant on the site. Continuing to use VEA after a change means you accept it.
